  • Upham Beach downwind paddle

    Upham 1-Mile Quickie NW

Great shore-runner practice run on NW wind direction, especially with incoming tide. Waves break well over the sandbar just after the pass. Once you catch a ride and link up couple, it is easy to walk back to the starting point.

    Distance: 1-2 km

Caution: Be respectful of any swimmers and surfers as this location is a very popular vacation spot.

Parking: At the end of 70th Ave

  • Ft. Desoto Downwind paddle

Brent’s Run at Ft. Desoto - NE

One of our most favorite short practice runs. Brent’s Run is great after overnight NE 13-15kt wind and opposing incoming tide into the bay. Best if you time it just in the middle of the tide according to Vince, our local DW OG.

    Distance: 2 km

Caution: Be aware of big container ship traffic if you run far into the channel

  • Tampa Bay Courtney Campbell downwind paddle

    Rob’s Run at Courtney Campbell 9-15km - W

Great bay run practice run but must be straight W wind direction to create enough fetch. Works well on high or incoming tide. Waves may get nice and big by the middle of the bridge which is also the first safety bail out point. The shorter 9 km end point is at the Ben T Davis Beach. The longer version goes to Cypress Point Park.

    Distance: 9-15 km

Caution: Be respectful of any swimmers at Ben T Davis Beach and aware of any jet-ski rentals. Many jet-ski drivers are newbies without any awareness.

Parking: At Ben T Davis or Cypress Point Park
